The seat that goes between the two front seats — not on them.

Your dog wants to be next to you, not behind you. The Co-Pilot Seat sits on the raised centre console, wedged between the driver and passenger seats, and straps to the base of both. That puts your dog at your shoulder, at window height, where they can see the road and see you.

Why the console and not the passenger seat

  • No airbag above them. The console is the one place in the front of a car that has none.
  • Braced on three sides — console below, a seat bolster either side. It cannot slide.
  • The passenger seat stays free for a passenger.
  • Your hand reaches them without taking your eyes off the road.

Boiled wool. Full-grain leather. Solid brass.

The shell is dense Italian boiled wool over an internal frame. Every corner is capped in chestnut tan full-grain leather, vegetable-tanned, that darkens with the years. The buckles and clips are solid cast antique brass, not plated zinc. Nothing on this seat is printed, stamped or plastic.

It stands up when the dog gets out

A frame runs through all four walls. Empty, it holds its shape on the console instead of folding into a sagging bag — which is the reason most boosters get used twice and then live in the boot.

Four anchor points

A leather strap runs from each side of the seat to the base of each front seat. A third strap loops the handbrake housing or the console lid. Inside, a short leather tether clips to your dog's harness so they cannot stand up mid-corner.

Sherpa liner, out in ten seconds

Cream sherpa fleece over a memory foam base, both removable. Wash the liner cool, brush the wool, put it back. One zipped leather pocket on the outside for bags, treats and a spare lead.

Three colours, one interior

Bone Cream, Deep Forest and Charcoal — all with the same chestnut tan leather and the same cream sherpa lining, so it reads as part of the car rather than something added to it.

Will it fit my car?

If there is a raised armrest or console between your front seats and it is between 18 and 34cm wide, it fits. That covers almost every saloon, estate and SUV. Cars with a flat bench or a walk-through gap between the front seats are the exception — put it on the passenger seat instead and use the seatbelt through the side straps.

Safety

This is a travel seat, not a crash-tested restraint. Always use the internal tether clipped to a harness, never to a collar.

Care

Machine wash the sherpa liner cool. Brush the wool. Condition the leather twice a year.

Size & fit

Measure the neck at the base, with two fingers under the tape. Between sizes, take the larger — every collar has five adjustment holes. Harnesses are sized on the deepest part of the chest, behind the front legs.

Two measurements cover almost everything we make. Take them once, write them down, and you will never guess again.

Neck — for collars

  • Run a soft tape around the base of the neck, where a collar naturally sits.
  • Slide two fingers flat under the tape. That is the number you want.
  • If you are between sizes, take the larger one. Every Larkwell collar has five adjustment holes.

The Wander Collar — S 30–36 cm · M 36–43 cm · L 43–52 cm
The Glow Collar — S 35–40 cm · M 38–45 cm · L 41–52 cm · XL 44–58 cm
The Heritage Set — S 30–36 cm · M 36–43 cm · L 43–52 cm

Chest — for harnesses

  • Measure the deepest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
  • Keep the tape snug but not tight.

The Field Harness — S 40–52 cm · M 50–66 cm · L 64–82 cm · XL 78–98 cm

Back length — for the drying coat

  • From the base of the collar to the base of the tail, along the spine.

The Shake-Off Robe — XS 30 cm · S 40 cm · M 50 cm · L 60 cm · XL 70 cm

Beds and mats

Measure your dog nose to tail while they are lying stretched out, then add 15 cm. Dogs that curl can go a size down; dogs that sprawl should go a size up.

The Manor Bed — M 80×60 cm · L 100×75 cm · XL 120×90 cm
The Cool Field Mat — M 65×50 cm · L 90×60 cm · XL 110×70 cm

Still unsure? Send us the two numbers and a photo and we will tell you which size to take.

Care

Wipe with a damp cloth. Dry slowly at room temperature, never on a radiator. Feed with a wax conditioner twice a year. Rinse salt water off the same day. Fabric covers come off and machine wash at 30 °C.

Full-grain leather is not a finish. It is a material that keeps changing, and it responds to being used.

The short version

  • Wipe it down when it is dirty. Damp cloth, nothing else.
  • Let it dry away from radiators and direct sun.
  • Feed it with a wax-based conditioner twice a year.
  • That is the whole routine.

When it gets wet

It will get wet. That is fine. Wipe off the surface water, let it dry slowly at room temperature, then work a little conditioner in once it is dry to the touch. What ruins leather is not water — it is heat drying it too fast and pulling the oils out.

Mud, salt and rivers

Rinse salt water off the same day. Salt crystallises in the fibres and cuts them from the inside. Mud can dry and be brushed off.

The brass

Solid antique brass will develop a patina. That is the point — it is why we do not plate it. If you prefer it bright, a soft cloth and a little brass polish brings it back in a minute. Keep polish off the leather.

Waxed canvas

Brush off dry dirt. Sponge with cold water for anything worse. Never machine wash, never dry clean, never iron — all three strip the wax. Re-wax once a year with any standard cotton wax and it stays water-repellent indefinitely.

Fabric covers

Bed covers, robe bodies and fleece cushions come off and go in the machine at 30 °C. Air dry. No tumble dryer.

What we mean by a decade

Vegetable-tanned full-grain leather, hand saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread and set with solid brass, has no built-in failure point. Looked after as above, a Larkwell collar outlasts the dog wearing it. That is not a slogan — it is what the construction is for.

Customs and duties

Any customs charges, import duties or local taxes applied when the parcel reaches your country are the customer's responsibility. They vary by country, are outside our control, and are not included in the price you pay us.

Your statutory rights

Nothing on this page limits the consumer rights you have under the law where you live, or the guarantees that apply to us as the seller and cannot be excluded. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure is not major. Everything below is in addition to those rights, not instead of them.

30 days to change your mind

  • Unused, in original condition and original packaging.
  • Write to us before sending anything back. We confirm the return address in writing and give you a return reference - parcels sent back without one take considerably longer to process.
  • Return postage is yours for a change of mind. If the item arrived damaged, faulty or not as described, it is ours.
  • Refunds go to the original payment method within 5-10 business days of the parcel reaching us. Original shipping is refunded when the fault was on our side.

Engraved and monogrammed items

Brass plates and embroidered monograms are cut to your text and cannot be resold, so they are not returnable for change of mind. Please check your spelling before you order.

That exclusion does not apply if the item is faulty, the leather or hardware is defective, or we engraved something different from what you typed. In any of those cases we replace it at our cost or refund you in full - your choice.

Two-year guarantee on hardware and stitching

If a stitch line fails or a solid brass fitting breaks in normal use within two years, we repair or replace it. Send a photograph. You do not need the receipt - we can find the order. This does not cover chewing, cutting, deliberate damage, or leather left to dry out.

Exchanges

Wrong size is the most common reason people write to us and the easiest thing to fix. Tell us the size you want and we will get it moving.

Who you are dealing with
